For several years, a sign sat on the edge of Barracks Road just north of Charlottesville, VA that read “Future Home of The Field School of Albemarle”. The process was arduous - an SUP for educational use was required, VDOT had traffic concerns, and there were streams and wetlands to consider. However, despite these hurdles, we have continued to work closely with the school leadership and are eager to see this project break ground in the spring of 2024.

The aim of this project was to create a campus for the Field School, including classrooms,a dining hall, an administrative building, basketball courts, and a baseball/football field that blend in with the surrounding nature. Field school’s connection to the outdoors was critical and we achieved this through breaking down and decentralizing masses to achieve the blend of the interior and exterior spaces that will create a unique environment for the students.
